Successful Data Migration From GE SmallWorld to Esri ArcGIS for Utilities Asset Management (Energa Operator SA)
Overview
GISonLine supported the project for the implementation of the Integrated Network Asset Management System at Energa Operator SA (independent distribution system operator). Primary focus was to migrate utilities inventory and asset data from Energa Operator legacy asset management system (GE Smallworld) to the targeted Esri ArcGIS environment. A key component of the project was to ensure the data migration process adheres to data integrity, completeness, and supports continuity of business operations.
The Impact
With emphasis on continuity of business operations and workflows, transitioning the data from the legacy data model to the new geodatabase model focused on successful migration of Energa Operator’s electrical distribution lines and utility objects to include:
- 40,000 km of utility network
- 11 thousand stations
- 400 thousand utility poles
- 600 thousand connectors
The Outcome
GISonLine setup a data migration strategy, methodology, and set of transformation software tools to guide the migration process to successful completion with quality control checks. The method utilized ETL (Extract, Transform and Load) class software and ensured the data migration process could be repeatable for subsequent data migrations between the legacy and Esri environment.
